Sometime during freshman year, there was this night market where student associations sold food for fundraising. One club was selling tiny egg tarts, and, having never tasted them before, bought one. Now I didn't know egg tarts are an indescribable flood of happiness—eggy & sweet & warm when fresh. It was a taste that never really left my memories, and when my apartmentmate & I went on a spontaneous trip to 85C, the taste of egg tarts brought me back to a younger memory, a younger self, and a younger world.
Nostalgia, now there's an odd concept. The simultaneous adoration and abhorrence of the world that once was. Warm feelings swirling around like a romantic filter, in this case floating around memories associated with simpler times and simpler instances. We don't dare wander too close to the flame of memory, or else it'll wilt into ruin.
Some things stand the test of time, and for me two things ring true: 1) egg tarts, and 2) Sailor Moon.
I recently bought stationery courtesy of Cute Things From Japan, a shop run by a very lovely woman named Ayako. From her I managed to get one of the limited edition Sailor Moon washi, an accompanying tape dispenser worthy of aesthetic visuals, Bande's cherry blossom washi stickers, and washi samples from other limited edition Sailor Moon washi. Note that I also received a bonus sample of other washi, which was a wonderful touch to a package I already loved so much! Thank you so much for the love. <3
I'm very thankful for the bonus samples, as my family's actually very fond of watermelon. It's a summer staple, especially for my dad, who loves to blend watermelon and make a drinkable slush out of it for hot summer evenings. Can't believe the sun's coming back so soon! Especially after all this drizzle weather lately.
I'm really glad I chose to get the samples for the limited edition washi. The comic styled one is such a great visual difference compared to samples like the bows, so I appreciate the versatility behind the pieces. I don't think the listing is back up for these samples, but I'm glad I bought them when I could.
Really, thank you, Ayako, & thank you for a wonderful shop. I look forward to buying things again. 🌟
For now, I'll keep working on my classwork and upcoming midterm—I've had great grades on two of my midterms, so here's to hoping the luck continues!
Keep believing in the best. ✨
Yours Sincerely,
Dianne
