April Favorites
The set illustrations during Bad Suns.
I attended my final Sun God Festival over the weekend, and somewhere between the blaring sun and the heightened recklessness of the world around me, I found nostalgia. Yes, it's true that no festival would ever truly reach the height that was the festival from my freshman year at university, but I do try to enjoy it, if only for a little bit.
Top Ten for April 2017:
- Einstein's Dreams --> replaced by
The Disappointments Room - Mob Psycho 100 --> (STARTED, LOVE THE ANIMATION)

Dear White People Deidra & Laney Rob a Train- The Get Down (STARTED, ENJOYED IT!)
- Bill Nye Saves the World (FAILED)
- Angela Carter's Book of Fairytales --> replaced by
Attack on Titan Welcome to Night Vale
Uhhh I was super bad at catching up with my Top Ten for this month, but I'll also let everyone know that I justify this because I wrote 50,000 words for Camp NaNoWriMo. That's right, I'm a winner! Heck yeah.
April Favorites: Healthy Beauty
- The DIY deodorant I made isn't an antiperspirant but it has given me such a physical difference in how I feel. Very easy to apply, much better on handling my skin. It's made from coconut oil, arrowroot, and a third ingredient I can't remember at the moment.
- Blistex medicated lip balm has saved by life and my soul.
- Botanics Shine Away Toner feels so nice on my face and helps me feel more solid (?) in how my face absorbs skincare products. Also I love shaking it when the ingredients separate. There's something soothing about the color.
April Favorites: Media
- I think it's absolutely astounding that Welcome to Night Vale managed to grant such a visual perspective from an audio tale. In particular I enjoyed the emotional investment I have in Kevin and his story, no matter which period of time. Triptych (episode 70) was a fantastic episode.
- Bad Suns was live at Sun God this year, so I took the time to listen to them as the month went on. Cardiac Arrest and Even in My Dreams, I Can't Win are my favorites. Cardiac Arrest was amazing live, by the way! Very passionate.
- Dear White People was incredible, y'all. Absolutely charming and full of quips and complex characters. Loved the movie, love the show. Give it a watch.
April Favorites: Social Personalities
- Instagram continues to be amazing. Finding aesthetic journaling goals in momolovespaper. Absolutely incredible in the way she incorporates so many designs into collective, cohesive spreads. Notable mentions: the hand clip and the bear she totes around. :)
- Mind Over Munch for sure. I've been loving Alyssia for about a year and a half now, and I enjoy the way in which she dissects nutritional facts and comes up with so many creative recipes.
April Favorites: Words
- I had the chance to read an excerpt from Jane Ziegelman's 97 Orchard, and it was phenomenal. There are so many vivid details and lush stories of immigrant life in New York, and I would 100% recommend it. Read it for class but would love to continue reading it for leisure.
- I finished liveblogging my friend's book in April, 100/10 did enjoy. I could go on for ages about how emotional I was, but given that it's still a work in progress, all we can do is wait for the beauty to continue.
Top Ten for May 2017:
- American Gods
- Mob Psycho 100
- My Hero Academia
- Einstein's Dreams
- The Get Down
- Angela Carter's Book of Fairytales
- Queen of Katwe
- Shanghai Express
- The Missing Ink
- Persepolis
Good luck with midterms, if you're in the quarter system like me! If you're in high school, good luck with AP exams!
Keep believing in yourself. <3
Yours Sincerely,
Dianne
