Hi everyone! Just wanted to show you some things that have maintained a constant in my life with their haunting beauty. Up above we have the image of a soda display at the local Vons, nearby the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf where we have our Thursday writing sessions. I'll have you know this display has been up for months and has terrified me every time.

Those eyes, though. That's where the real terror is, that soulless abyss.

The Humanities & Social Science building holds the history department, and when I'm heading to the undergraduate lounge I get to see this gorgeous illustrated artwork. Really, pictures can't do it much justice, because there's this amount of detail that my camera doesn't really pick up.

You can see where they've tried to resize it here and there, but the gold accents are absolutely breath-taking. It's such a wonderful blue, too, with the slightest tinge of dark green to it. That with silver and gold in the detailwork. That 'h' is the most awe-inspiring thing I've seen in years, and it's why I want to someday delve into that sort of manuscript illumination work. Maybe as a hobby. Someday. I know it's a lot of work, so it's a far-off dream right now.

And that 'o'! Goodness gracious that 'o' has such beautiful symmetry and deserves so much more acknowledgment within our tiny community. I wonder if the other history undergraduates/graduates appreciate this. I hope they do, since it's often the first thing they see when they head out of the elevator on the fifth floor.

I hope that everyone gets to appreciate these sorts of details; check it out in museums, look at YouTube videos, just try and look! There's so much hard work placed into these sorts of things.

Keep Illuminating.

Yours Sincerely,

Dianne
