Nothing like an October Favorites Post eleven days into November. We can totally pretend this was posted on Halloween.

Disregarding that, apologies for the lack of updates--National Novel Writing Month has been going on since November 1st, and those few hours of free time I have are dedicated to writing 1667 words a day. (I'm currently behind by around 5k, but that's a different story--for class I'm reading 100+ pages per week and there's only so much my eyes can stand everyday)

But let's get to the favorites.

☆ October Favorites 2015 ☆

Media

  • congrats, everyone. I've been catching up on some great shows (thanks Hulu!)--How to Get Away with Murder takes the spot for favorite tv show of the month. Laurel's still my favorite, of course, and the closer we get to catching up with the present-time events of season two, the more excited I get. :')
    • on Halloween, though, my roommates and I watched the entirety of Over the Garden Wall again, and trust me--it's the perfect mini-series to watch to get you in the mood for fall. All of that whimsical traveling theme with the occasional thoughts concerning the inevitability of death. #sublime

{my favorite song from the mini-series: Langtree's Lament.
It's just so catchy and then it just gets in my head}
  • Did I even watch movies this month? I know I used snapchat very frequently.

my beautiful succulents. And the pinwheel.}

    • Speaking of apps, favorite apps of this month include:
      • Walkr--a cute app with lovely illustrations; it basically lets you facilitate interplanetary capitalism by having you feed the planets and the planets giving you products in return. You can deliver little product packages if necessary, and you can make the food-to-product wait time go faster using energy you've gained from walking! It uses your steps for the day to create walking, although I mostly just use it because everything's so adorable. The sound effects and music are really charming, and with all these nifty little aspects of the app, I recommend it wholeheartedly! (And if you want to add me, I'm hungryhungryhippo; my WID is 7usc22yfxU4)
      • LINE PLAY--an extension of the LINE app, LINE PLAY allows you to decorate your own character as well as your player's house--you can also play games, such as my favorite, TAPTAP. The LINE apps in general (including the photo editor, ailis) are a very bubbly sort of charming. Like champagne, but more friendly and bright.
  • music. Oh, yes, music, that's a journey of its own. My iPod decided to malfunction and erased all my playlists from the device. I can't fix that until I go home for thanksgiving, so now I'm feeling the slightest bit lost. I often end up listening to Jaymes Young's stripped version of Moondust, and continuously have it on repeat. If there's any song you should buy this month, it's that version. It's a very soothing song, the sort of song that lets you stare at the starry night sky so that you can forget the world around you. I recommend it 100%.

Other People's Words

  • my fondness for fall can be described with inkskinned's words on witch weather.
  • I'm still in the process of reading it, Dr. Li Zhisui's work in The Private Life of Chairman Mao is just absolutely appalling and enthralling at the same time. There's so much from this book you can learn from behind the scenes of the Cultural Revolution and the years previous. It's a lofty book, sure, but there's so much to learn about history, and I genuinely think that more people should understand the past--otherwise, they'll never understand the present.
  • Robin Coste Lewis's Voyage of the Sable Venus is an absolutely breathtaking poetry collection, and everyone should take the time to read it. While it's very soothing for an evening of autumn reading, it also brings many concepts into question, particularly the concept of being used as an object in art and media.
    • my favorite lines (from the poem Glinda the Good):

Thanks for reading--and now back to NaNoWriMo. :')

Love,

Dianne
